Too Smart: Philippe Dubost Sells Him In Amazon Style Resume

Monday, January 28, 2013

Dubost, a web product manager, built a webpage that is a near-perfect ringer for an Amazon.com product page, with himself as the product. You can check out his dimensions (186 centimeters), select language (he's trilingual), add him to your cart (which brings up a contact form), or even purchase related products like an airline ticket and some Asics (he's a runner, it seems). And, of course, you can read his customer reviews.

They average five stars, of course, but there are a surprising number of one-star ratings—"lots of ex-girlfriends," Dubost explained via Twitter.

The page has gone viral, pushing the limits of Dubost's server capacity, and he had to fix his contact form after the number of submissions exceeded the cap for his free account with online form-builder Wufoo.

A good chunk of the traffic came from a post Thursday by Mashable's Chris Taylor, who wrote, "We don't actually know if Philippe Dubost is any good at his job. But boy, can he throw together a resume."

Actually, though, I'd say we do have a pretty good idea of how good Dubost is at his job. The guy is a web product manager, and his resume is per se a wildly successful web product. And as his Twitter feed attests, Dubost has been working day and night for the past 36 hours to respond to praise, media requests, and constructive criticism. I look forward to finding out who snaps him up.

Chinese Cops Use Sex Doll To Slows Traffic At Crosswalk In China

Friday, January 25, 2013

Trust us, if that happens in India it would lead to massive trafiic jams. Sex doll was used to slow down traffic in China. Why settle for a boring-old stop sign when you have a highly realistic sex doll on hand?

An unidentified elderly woman was getting fed up with drivers speeding past a crosswalk near her home in China, according to Car News China's interpretation of Chinese-language newspaper Tiexue. Local cops offered little help, so the resourceful granny tried slowing down drivers with the aid of a strategically positioned inflatable girlfriend.

She tied the counterfeit cutie to a tree next to the crosswalk, apparently hoping that rubbernecking motorists would slow down at the sight. Based on the photo, her tactic worked in at least one case.

Let's just hope the local police force doesn't make the same mistake as officers in China's Shandong Province. Last month, 18 officers spent almost an hour rescuing a blow-up doll from a river, mistakenly thinking it was a drowning woman.

Chinese cops aren't the only ones who take sex dolls seriously, though. In 2011, 18-year-old Tyell Morton almost received a prison sentence for a prank that involved placing a blow-up doll in the girl's bathroom at his Indiana high school.

SYRIA: Assad Builds Women Army As He Run out Of Men

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has recruited an army of women to guard checkpoints and carry out security checks in an attempt to plug the holes left by defections and casualties in his dwindling army.

Up to 500 women have been drafted into the new paramilitary force known as the 'Lionesses for National Defence.'

They have been in trained at a boot camp in Wadi al-Dahab in the Syrian city of Homs.
They form part of the recently formed 10,000-strong National Defence Force (NDF), a key part of Assad's counter insurgency strategy, as the president desperately tries to regain control of the country's towns and cities.

Decked out in army fatigues and armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles, the women have also been seen guarding areas of Homs where the majority of locals are known to support the government's regime.

Part of their role is to carry out security checks on veiled women. A grainy video uploaded four days ago to LiveLeak.com clearly shows at least ten women guarding a checkpoint in Palmyra, Homs.

Abu Rami, a spokesman for the Syrian Revolution General Commission in Homs told The Independent: 'I was very surprised, it's the first time I have seen this.

'I think it is an excuse to make the Free Syrian Army kill women and then show the world as propaganda, but anyone with a weapon is a legitimate target.' One Homs resident told Al Arabiya: The sight of these girls is disturbing.

Unemployed Graduate Rents a Billboard in a Desperate Attempt to Get a Job

Monday, January 7, 2013

Thousands of unemployed people spend their days tirelessly filling out application forms, composing cover letters, and trying to think of a creative answer to 'what would you say your weaknesses are in the workplace?'

And after unsuccessfully applying for countless positions, Adam Pacitti had had enough - and spent his last £500 on a billboard asking employers to give him a job.

The 24-year-old dreamed up the way of promoting himself, and his talents, three months ago, after sending out his CV for at least 250 different positions.

Adam, who lives with his family on the Isle of Wight, said he wanted to add something extra to his application - and as video CVs are now a popular form of a applying for jobs, decided to go a little bigger.

He said: 'I thought traditional advertising could work to promote it. It's a very striking image and I thought news outlets would be able to cover it easily.'

Now, after creating the website employadam.com, and yesterday posting the billboard and Tweeting the image, the would-be producer has watched his campaign for employment go viral in less than 24 hours. He said: 'After posting, I had about ten re-Tweets in an hour.

'Then my phone exploded, and now I've had over 7,000 re-Tweets.
'I'm incredibly humbled that people have seen I've thought outside the box, and then shared this with others.'

After graduating this year with a First Class Honours degree in Media Production from the University of Winchester, the student worked in an arcade, filling the two-pence machines and stacking toys.

He said: 'I was grateful to have a job, but it's not something I'd really like to do.
'I came up with the idea for the video and billboard about three months ago, and managed to save up £500 while working.

'I called in favours from friends and asked studios, and made the video, and decided to post the billboard in London, because that's where most of the jobs are.'
