A revolutionary new gadget means pet owners can now feed their animals when they're away - by simply touching a button on their mobile phone. Inventor Carlos Herrera has developed the wireless pet-feeder owners can control from their smartphone to ensure their animals never miss a meal.
The product not only dispenses food, either on schedule or by phone command, it also monitors your pet's health and sends alerts via Twitter and Facebook.
The mobile phone will receive a text, email, Facebook or Twitter message, that reports on feeding start and end times and even the amount consumed.
The machine uses the information it collects to create feeding schedules and it monitors food intake and nutritional habits. The entrepreneur, from Pasadena, Los Angeles, California, explained how he came up with the concept for Pintofeed in March 2012.
The 32-year-old said: 'We spent a few months on the drawing-board thinking of the idea, and by July we were up and running. 'We wanted to build a product that provided convenience to the pet owner and healthy eating to the pet.
'With our background in robotics and artificial intelligence, we felt like we could create a smart web connected appliance that could do both autonomously.'
The product is made of high-impact plastic and can hold up to 10lbs (4.53 kg) of dry food.
Mr Herrera admits he does not own any pets - but the inspiration came from a special friend in their office.
He added: 'Ironically, I do not have pets, but most of our team members do.
'We do have an office dog named 'underdog' - he helps us with usability testing!'
